This magazine was born in the 1920’s. The Flappers period starts after the First World War; why this name? The official reason could be that the flapper girls were “liberal” and tried to be free, as a bird who is trying to learn to fly with his wings. But the word “flap” could have negative connotations, ad “prostitute”.
The flappers wanted to do things as men did; they wanted to be independent. I admire them so much, they were really brave. And their masculine style fascinates me a lot!
The woman in the picture is Billie Dove, an American actress, painter and poet.
